Submission Critiques

Have you been sending out submissions/queries to publishers and agents and getting form rejections or no response at all? Do you want to get an idea how agents and editors are reacting to your submission? Do you want to get feedback on how to improve it?

It should consist of no more than:

  • a one-page cover letter
  • a maximum of a two page synopsis (can be single-spaced), but one page is highly recommended
  • the first fifteen pages of manuscript
  • a SASE with proper postage for return
  • standard format for a manuscript page is double-spaced, one-inch margins all around, typed in a 12-point font such as Courier or Times New Roman

You Will Receive

  • an evaluation of the submission in terms of a publisher’s/agent’s perspective*
  • recommendations for improving the cover letter and synopsis, as well as style comments on the fifteen pages of manuscript

*A quick note about qualifications: Bob Mayer has worked with Random House, Dell, Putnam/Berkley, St. Martins, Presidio Press, Harper-Collins, Tor and several other American Presses. He has had novels accepted by over a dozen editors, and has met numerous more editors and agents at conferences.
